Founded in Palermo on August 16, 1956 by Nicola Mettier, Hobby Shop is a leading company in terms of size and specialization in the sale of items for modeling.

In 1956 Mr. Nicola Mettier took over a previous commercial activity, the Emporio Mecra located in via Terrasanta in Palermo and in the following years transformed it into a model shop; moved by his thousand passions, he is committed to spreading what he himself calls “the art of modeling” in the city, an interesting and instructive activity that requires a wide range of knowledge: physical, mechanical and electronic.

He begins with the sale of mixture model aircraft, his first passion that drives him to organize model aircraft events at Boccadifalco airport. Assisted by many enthusiasts who come together at his shop to get advice, compare their experiences and spend happy afternoons listening to tasty jokes and theatrical improvisations with which he entertains customers, the shop becomes a center for aggregation and dissemination of knowledge. about model making.

Considered by friends-customers "a person who thinks a hundred and a thousand does", he personally engages in various hobbies and begins to sell ship and railway modeling items first, making use of the collaboration of ancient Italian and foreign companies, such as Aeropiccola , supplier of ship models and items for ship modeling since 1943, now closed, which still remains in the memory of the oldest model makers and of underwater fishing items.

In the 60s he began a fruitful collaboration with the Fantasyland company, one of the largest import companies of static and dynamic modeling items, with the support of which over the years he managed to organize numerous electric car events in Palermo.

In the course of his activity he opened the “Le Mans” slot track in Piazza Mameli, open to all fans; he also created a club of affiliated members who collaborated in the organization of motorboat and sailboat events and competitions; he made several exhibitions at the Medivacanze which was held at the Mediterranean fair; he became a sponsor and promoter of the modeling car races with internal combustion engines up to the events organized in more recent times, for example in the city of children.
